Women
In
many parts of the world women face serious injustice. Young women in
particular are less likely to have access to education and more likely
to be overworked and at risk of abuse.
Lori's Story: Zimbabwe
Lori
never knew her father, so when her mother died she went to live with
her uncle. Sadly, Lori's uncle physically and verbally abused her. One
night he came into her bedroom and tried to abuse her. The following
day she ran away.
When Lori first came to Tanaka, she had a
violent temper, was very stubborn and suffered from serious nightmares.
These were so bad she would not go upstairs to the bedrooms alone.
Thanks to her time at Tanaka, Lori has made great progress. Having
completed stage 1 of a Diploma in Administration at a local college,
Lori is now holding down a job and has learnt to express herself
non-violently.
Oasis managed to trace Lori's grandparents and,
after a difficult reconciliation, their relationship is developing.
Lori still carries the weight of her experiences, but she is moving
forward with her life.
